Carparts.com

CarParts.com is one of the nation’s leading online auto parts retailers. Our partnership allows Certified RepairPal Shops to install customer purchased parts and attract a whole new customer base by participating in e-commerce in a meaningful way. For the consumer, they get a high quality list of shops that they can visit to properly and safely install the parts they have purchased.

How the program works:

1. Consumers will buy the part(s) online from CarParts.com and the parts will be shipped to the consumer.

2. An agent from CarParts.com will contact you at the shop to obtain a quote for the installation of the parts. This quote should include a full “out the door” price (including tax, environmental fees, etc.). Typically, incoming calls from CarParts.com agents is from (310) 735-0076.

We encourage you to mark up your labor rate 20-25% to make up for the fact that you are not supplying the part. Remember, you must honor your original labor quote so there are no surprises when the customer arrives. We generally do not encourage shop supply fees, but if you charge them at your shop, this should be part of your overall quote.

Flat Rate Repairs

To increase consumer adoption of the program, there are three parts that have “flat rate pricing”. Labor times are based on official data from industry standard labor guides with your provided labor rate. Please ensure your customer-supplied parts labor rate in your Dashboard is up to date. To do this, visit your RepairPal Dashboard and locate “Manage Profile” and locate the Pricing tab under Settings.

In the event that a quote on flat rate repairs is an issue for your shop, please contact RepairPal Support at 877-287-5234 or operations@repairpal.com.

At time of this writing, headlights, tail lights and side mirror assemblies are the primary flat rate parts you may receive. CarParts.com agents may call your shop to confirm pricing and the customer’s appointment time.

3. The agent will communicate your quote to the consumer and if the consumer chooses your shop, you will receive an online appointment in your RepairPal Dashboard, reflecting the quote you provided over the phone.

4. You are responsible for the warranty on labor only.  If the part fails or has issues, the consumer will need to handle it directly with the partner. If you need assistance with a failed part, contact RepairPal Partner Support.

5. With the customer in your shop, you are free to recommend any additional needed repairs or services.

6. RepairPal will assess a 10% referral fee of the repair order (labor + any additional parts you sell).

FAQs

Why should I participate in this program?

This gives you the opportunity to gain a customer you wouldn’t normally have gotten. They were already buying parts online, so CarParts.com is just trying to funnel them to a good shop for installation, so they have a good experience.

What labor rate can I charge?

Charge your regular labor rate plus an extra premium (we recommend up to a 25% increase) to cover your costs in accepting a consumer provided part.

How will I know when I have received one of these appointments?

You will be notified as normal through your shop dashboard and via email. If you are opted into text notifications, you will receive one. CarParts.com agents often contact shops to confirm pricing and appointment availability to ensure a smooth experience.

What if the customer brings in the wrong part or needs a different repair?

If they bring the wrong part, the customer will need to contact CarParts.com and make an exchange to get the right part. You can direct them here. You don’t need to facilitate this transaction in any way.

If they bring in a part, and it’s pretty obvious they require a different repair, you should offer a diagnostic and give them a list of parts that they’ll need to order. If they decline, then you’ve done your part.

We can’t warranty this part.

We understand that you didn’t source the parts yourself, so we’re not expecting you to offer any warranty on the part itself. As part of the program, we ask you to warranty your workmanship for up to 12 months to ensure it’s been installed correctly. CarParts.com will carry the warranty on the part and will take care of reinstallation cost if necessary.

What are the common kinds of parts that I might expect consumers to need help with?

Some of them are body/ collision related (which if you have that capability, awesome, and if not, you will have the opportunity to reject any potential work that is not in your wheelhouse).  A partial list of the top parts from our program with CarParts.com includes the following:

  1. Mirrors
  2. Headlight/ Taillight/ Corner Light/ Fog Light
  3. Bumper Cover
